How much overhead does creating a text image on the fly generate (running on Windows 2000 machine)? Does it depend on the size of the image, color depth, etc.? I'm new to ASP and .NET, so please excuse my ignorance on some matters.

When you use GDI+ to output graphics there is always overhead involved. Generating an image on the fly is CPU and memory intensive process, no matter what technology or OS you are using.
