|
|
Hi,
I need a Windows 2003 dedicated server with MS SQL Server 2005 Standard edition. The server will host a single website, with around 25,000 unique visitors daily with 300,000 page views. I don't have any idea what hardware specs do I need to be able to handle this much visitors, and I need your help.
Can you please give me an idea what hardware do I need to run both IIS and MS SQL Server 2005 on the same physical server, and to handle the number of visitors above?
Thanks you,
Jon |

jon,
Are you planning to run your own server, or are you looking for a dedicated host?
I would suggest using a host for this job as it could get quite technical, though if you have the skills you could do it yourself. |

Hi Kurtis,
Most likely I'll need somebody to manage it. I don't have experience with Windows server administration. Do you know what hardware do I have to get to be able the run the site with MS SQL backend?

I would advise against managing it yourself if you don't have a lot of Windows server administration experience. You should be able to find somebody with experience to manage the server for you for about $50 per month.

Thanks Paul,
I'll start looking for Windows server administrator.
Still, my original question remains unanswered. What hardware do I need to be able to serve 25,000 unique visitors daily with 300,000 page views? The website will have MS SQL Server backend, runing on the smae server.
Thanks again,

As far as server hardware is concerned you can get something like the configuration below:
P4 2.8 GHz with HyperThreading enabled
2GB RAM
80GB HD
You can also get a second hard drive and mirror both drives.
