I was wondering if anyone could give me some information to do with installing forums.
Which type of forum is the easiest to understand to install.
Im new but i want to learn how to install them as i have alot of websites that need forums on.
Im told its all different and depends if you are running windows server etc, and then i start getting all confused again.
What databases are the easiest to set up and what forum software is the best to use?
Thanks

As for as ease of installation and use, I think phpBB (the one that's running on this site) is very easy to get going, to use, and to administer.

There are a lot of options out there. You have some really good pay-for options like VBulletin that are fairly easy to manage and install. You have free scripts like PHPBB which is widely popular, and you have smaller ones like SMF which work very well and have a lot of features.

If you are looking for a free one that is easy to manage, SMF is my pick. It is easy to upgrade, easy to add mods. PHPBB is great but it can take some real tweaking to get maximum value.

I think vBulletin is the best commercial forum software, and PHPBB is my favorite free one.

Has anyone else ever used PunBB? It is pretty basic, but not bad for playing around with, for sure.

I've got a number of forum sites... Most of them are vBulletin. Two of them are phpBB. Those are ones that I haven't really committed to yet - I'm not really sure if they're gonna make it or not so I don't want to pay for a vBulletin license. But if/when they take off, they'll be converted to vBulletin.

phpBB is probably the easiest to use for a novice. I would also try looking into VBulletin (the admin cp can get a bit confusing though), or Invision Power Boards. I would try the latter, and I find it to run the best out of the three.

Pretty sure it is free. I did not have to pay anything to test it out.

I am working on the same plan too but have not used Vbulletin yet. How hard is it to convert a phpbb board over to vbulletin?

Is this forum vbulletin?

Are you running this on an ASP host?
