Hi,

Have any of you tried the new Visual Studio 2005? I was thinking to buy the Standard Edition, but I want to get some opinions first.

Thanks in advance,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I've got free Visual Studio 2005 Standard from Microsoft. See the thread I've just started:

http://www.aspdev.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=125

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm planning to install it the coming weekend.
I'll let you know how it goes.

I use it. I have found it to work very well for me. No real problems. I would definately recommend it to anyone who has an interest in using it.

Not yet, Im quite happy with 2003.
Before I go looking it up, are there any new features in 2005?

I realise it will now support asp.net 2.0, but is there anything else new?

I've worked with all version of Visual Studio and I like them all. The Visual Studio 2005 is no exception. I haven't had any problems so far, it seems very stable.

How much does an upgrade from 2003 to 2005 cost?
I might consider buying it for home use, for times when Im not at work and need to work from home.

Is it economical to purchase it for home use?

I would recommend to start with Visual Studio 2005 Express edition and if you like it, then upgrade your VS.NET 2003. Check for more details below:

I plan to try the Express edition soon.
Though the new features arent groundbreaking, surely it is an improvement somewhat over 2003.

I think the updates are quite disappointing . The few bugs has not been addressed still and the improvement isn't really great. I be looking forward to the next one though.

What exactly bugs are you talking about? There will be some time before Microsoft releases a new version of Visual Studio, that's for sure. It might be 2-3 years.

I have never noticed a bug in VS.
I don't use all the functionality of the program, but I use it enough to probably notice a bug.

Can you outline these bugs? I wouldn't mind testing for them.
